Travel insurance advice
It is really important that you understand your travel insurance policy.
I had travel insurance, so I assumed I was covered for the cost of getting myself fixed after the accident. But, never assume anything when it comes to insurance!
In fact, when I set foot back in the UK, my policy no longer covered me. Even though I needed a knee arthroscopy and the damage had been done while on holiday, I was no longer covered.
Had I had a knee arthroscopy operation while on holiday in France, I would have been fully covered.
So before you return home, make sure that you are doing the right thing!
I was fortunate that I went straight afterwards on a holiday to Malaysia and my operation was actually covered as a separate incident on a separate holiday.
Also make sure that you inform your insurance company of previous medical conditions. If you need to make a claim for a condition that you already had before you left the UK, your should have notified your insurance company about it before you left. If not, you will not be covered.
Finally, thank you to Cega for supporting my claim. My insurance is provided as part of my smilemore bank account. Smile subcontracts this to Norwich Union and Cega handles overseas medical claims on behalf of Norwich Union.
Yes, it does get a bit complicated doesn't it?
